Founded on July 19, 1915, the College owes its origin to the visionary leadership of Dr. Annie Wood Besant and a dedicated group of Theosophical workers inspired by her, notably her paternal uncle, Professor Ernest Wood. Originally established as Woods National College, this institution marked a significant milestone in the history of Rayalaseema, being the only center for higher education in the region at that time.

The College not only fulfilled the academic needs of the area but also served as a bridge connecting local communities with global cultural and spiritual movements championed by the Theosophical Society. It played a key role in fostering the ideals of cultural development and spiritual growth, while also contributing to the broader National movement for India’s political freedom, under the influence of Dr. Besant.
